Cassie has spoken out to thank everyone for their support following her allegations against Sean “Diddy” Combs and the release of a video showing him assaulting her in 2016. She shared a statement on Instagram, expressing how the support has helped her younger self feel safe. “This is just the beginning,” she wrote. “Domestic violence is a serious issue. It broke me down to someone I never thought I’d become. I’m better today after a lot of hard work, but I’ll always be recovering from my past.”
In disturbing footage from March 5, 2016, released by CNN, Combs is seen attacking Cassie Ventura in a Los Angeles hotel hallway. Despite the Los Angeles District Attorney’s office acknowledging the footage as “extremely disturbing,” they couldn’t prosecute due to the statute of limitations.
Diddy apologized, calling that period “the darkest times” in his life, acknowledging his inexcusable behavior.
Cassie had filed a civil lawsuit in New York in November, accusing Combs of repeated rape and physical abuse during their relationship. The lawsuit, also naming Bad Boy Records and Sony Music, described a cycle of abuse, violence, and sex trafficking. Cassie and Combs settled the case shortly after.
Recently, Combs has faced multiple lawsuits alleging rape, sexual assault, and sex trafficking, all of which he has denied. Following news of Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson selling a docuseries on the allegations to Netflix, Combs was hit with a new sexual assault suit from former model Crystal McKinney.
In her Instagram post, Cassie thanked her family, friends, fans, and strangers for their support and urged everyone to believe victims the first time they speak out. “The healing journey is never-ending, but this support means everything to me.” Praying for Cassie and all the other victors 🙏🏽
