Mistakes were Made by the Big Five Fashion Houses!
Stylist Law Roach spilled the tea on the “Cutting Room Floor” podcast, revealing that Zendaya still hasn’t rocked looks from five major fashion houses that snubbed her early on.
“I reached out to the big five: Saint Laurent, Chanel, Gucci, Valentino, and Dior. They all said, ‘No, try again next year. She’s too new. She’s not on our radar,’” Roach said.
“I’ve got the receipts,” he added. “Even when she made it to the cover of American Vogue in 2017, she hadn’t worn any of those designers. And she still hasn’t.”
Roach explained, “Zendaya has never worn Dior, Chanel, or Gucci on a red carpet. She’s never worn any of them for press or appearances, ever. The first time she wore Valentino in public was only after she had a contract with them.”
He went on, “When I said, ‘If you say no, it’ll be a no forever,’ that held true for a long time.” Roach, who’s been styling Zendaya since she was 14, noted that while she’s worn the big five in editorial shoots, she’s never worn them in public or on red carpets.
Even though Roach announced his retirement from celebrity styling over a year ago, he’s still Zendaya’s go-to stylist. He recently styled her for this year’s Met Gala, where she was one of the event’s co-chairs. She first arrived in a custom Maison Margiela gown by John Galliano, then surprised everyone with a second appearance in an archival Givenchy look, also by Galliano.
