
Tragic School Shooting at Apalachee High: Four Dead, Multiple Injured
A devastating shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, on Wednesday morning claimed the lives of two students and two teachers, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI). An additional nine victims—eight students and one teacher—were injured and transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The suspect, 14-year-old Colt Gray, a student at the school, was quickly apprehended by officers and surrendered without resistance. Gray is set to be charged with murder and will be tried as an adult, the GBI confirmed.
Authorities have not yet determined whether the victims were specifically targeted. The town of Winder is located about 45 miles northeast of Atlanta.
Barrow County Schools announced that all schools would remain closed for the rest of the week in response to the tragedy. Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith condemned the attack, calling it “pure evil.”
Northeast Georgia Health System reported that three victims suffering from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds were being treated at their facilities, along with five others experiencing anxiety and panic attack symptoms.
