Sean “P. Diddy” Combs: A History of Abuse and Power
Yesterday, a bombshell surveillance video was released showing music mogul Sean “P. Diddy” Combs physically assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Cassie Ventura, in a hotel hallway in 2016. This footage has reignited questions about how Combs has managed to evade accountability despite a long history of serious allegations. Here, we chronicle the accusations that have haunted Combs over the years.
Sean Combs, known professionally as P. Diddy, is a major figure in the music industry. As the founder of Bad Boy Records, he played a significant role in shaping hip-hop and R&B. He has also found success as a performer, producer, and entrepreneur. However, his career has been overshadowed by numerous allegations of abuse and misconduct.
The 2016 Incident and Cassie’s Lawsuit
The newly surfaced 2016 footage shows Combs violently assaulting Cassie Ventura, a singer and model who dated him for several years. In November 2023, Cassie filed a lawsuit against Combs, accusing him of years of abuse. Although the suit was settled out of court for an undisclosed amount, Combs’ lawyers insisted that the settlement was not an admission of guilt, and Combs maintained his innocence. Cassie faced significant backlash, with many accusing her of being after Combs’ money. However, the release of the 2016 video has caused many to reconsider their stance.
Joi Dickerson-Neal Revenge Porn
Joi Dickerson-Neal came forward with an accusation that Combs drugged and raped her in college in 1991, recording the abuse. She claims that she was not only a victim of rape, but also revenge porn. It is alleged that Combs recorded the incident and went as far as sharing it with other music executives. According to Dickerson-Neal the rape took place on January 3, 1991. She was out to dinner with Diddy when he drugged her drink and transported her to two different locations, one being his home. She did not initially report the attack out of fear, which statistically is common. Rape crimes go unreported close to 65% of the time.
Additional Allegations in November 2023
- Dancer’s Accusation: In November 2023, a dancer accused Combs of raping her in 2018 and forcing her into a long-term abusive relationship where he controlled every aspect of her life.
- 1991 Rape Allegations: Another woman claimed that in 1991, Combs and singer Aaron Hall raped her and her friend after meeting at an MCA record event in New York City.
December 2023 Allegation
In December 2023, an anonymous woman accused Combs of participating in the gang rape of a 17-year-old girl two decades earlier. The woman’s identity remains protected, but the allegations further tarnished Combs’ reputation.
The Raid
On March 25, Department of Homeland Security agents raided Combs’ multimillion-dollar mansion in Los Angeles and his waterfront home in Miami. These actions occurred amidst a growing number of civil lawsuits accusing the producer of abuse and sexual assault by multiple victims over a span of more than 30 years.
Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones’ Lawsuit
In April 2024, producer Rodney “Lil Rod” Jones sued Combs, alleging he was subjected to unwanted advances by Combs’ associates at Combs’ direction and forced into sexual encounters with sex workers hired by Combs. In the complaint Rodney also states that he was groped and touched in his gentals and other private areas without consent. Jones also claimed that Combs frequently hosted “sex-trafficking parties” involving underage girls. As expected, Combs’ lawyers denied these allegations, calling them and the parties total fabrications.
A History of Abuse and Power
The accusations against Combs date back to the early days of his career in the 1990s, when he founded Bad Boy Records. Cassie’s recent lawsuit matches some actions seen in the newly released surveillance footage and accuses Combs of paying the hotel $50,000 to suppress the footage.
