






Lights, camera, fabulousness! The 35th Annual GLAAD Media Awards have once again dazzled us with their celebration of LGBTQ+ excellence and representation. Let’s dive into the glitz, glamour and impactful moments that unfolded on March 14th, hosted by the incomparable Wayne Brady this promises to be an exciting streaming event on HULU airing March 29th.
First up, the iconic Oprah Winfrey received the prestigious Vanguard Award, introduced by none other than the dazzling duo of Chicago’s own Chilli Pepper and the charismatic Paolo Presta. Oprah’s heartfelt acceptance speech resonated deeply as she shared personal reflections and powerful messages of inclusivity and progress. She talked about her brother’s battle with AIDS, his passing and his longing for acceptance; celebrating how far we’ve come as a community.
But that’s just the beginning of this star-studded affair!
- “Ted Lasso”scored big with the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Comedy Series, presented by the fabulous Alexandra Shipp and Sydney Sweeney. Cheers to the hilarious and heartwarming show that continues to win hearts worldwide.
- “Rupaul’s Drag Race” snatched the award for Outstanding Reality Competition Program, presented by the dynamic duo Meredith Marks and Heather Dubrow. Sashay away with that trophy, queens!
- “Yellowjackets” took home the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Drama Series, presented by the stunning Chrishell Stause and the sensational G Flip. This gripping series keeps us on the edge of our seats.
- Reneé Rapp strutted her stuff to victory with the GLAAD Media Award for Outstanding Music Artist!
Niecy Nash was also honored with the Stephen F. Kolzak Award, introduced by Sharon Stone. In pure Niecy fashion she made the quote of the night saying, “If I’m honest, I never saw this life for myself. I was always an ally, but now I am a card-carrying member!”
The night was full of impactful speeches, and tons of well-deserved recognition, but there was also incredible performances. The multitalented Kate Hudson serenaded us with her new single “Talk About Love,” while the sensational Chlöe brought the house down with her captivating performance of “FYS,” marking a thrilling start to her musical journey in 2024.
With appearances from industry icons like Billie Joe Armstrong, Sharon Stone, and Shonda Rhimes, alongside the casts of fan-favorite shows like “Ted Lasso,” “Yellowjackets,” and “Rupaul’s Drag Race,” the night was a glittering ode to the power of LGBTQ+ representation in media and entertainment.
