Starring Alan Tudyk, the show’s first season, comprising 10 episodes, debuted on Syfy on January 27, 2021. Following its success, the series was renewed for a second season, which aired its first half on January 26, 2022, and concluded with its second half on August 10, 2022, totaling 16 episodes. “Jay”, portrayed by Kaylayla Raine in the sci-fi comedy TV series, is a 17-year-old intern at the clinic initially run by Sam Hodges, then Harry Vanderspeigle. Later, she transitions to Joe’s Diner upon learning Asta Twelvetrees, a nurse at the clinic, is her biological mother.
Character overview:
Jay, a 17-year-old intern at Patience, Colorado’s clinic, frequently interacts with Asta Twelvetrees, a nurse there. Unbeknownst to Jay, she is Twelvetrees’s daughter, conceived during Twelvetrees’s teenage years with her abusive husband, Jimmy. Concerned about providing a proper upbringing, Twelvetrees chose adoption for Jay. Though she watches over Jay discreetly, Jay addresses her as “Ms. Twelvetrees” until discovering the truth from a clinic file.
Feeling uncertain about their relationship, Jay resigns from the clinic and finds employment at Joe’s Diner, courtesy of Twelvetrees’s adoptive father, Dan Twelvetrees. She grows close to Asta’s friend, D’Arcy Bloom. Despite a birthday dinner mishap, Jay and Asta reconcile, with Asta expressing her love and understanding. Jay eventually returns to the clinic, seeking her former position, and bonds with Asta- finally embracing their mother-daughter connection.
You can catch “Resident Alien” on Wednesdays at 10 pm on the SYFY channel.
