Cartoon Network and Max have teamed up to bring a thrilling new animated series, “Iyanu,” to screens worldwide. Unveiled at San Diego Comic Con, the first-look clip of this eagerly awaited show promises to mesmerize audiences with its rich blend of Nigerian culture, mythology, and stunning animation. Produced by Lion Forge Entertainment, “Iyanu” is adapted from the acclaimed graphic novel series Iyanu: Child of Wonder by award-winning Nigerian creator and filmmaker Roye Okupe.
“Iyanu” transports viewers to the enchanting kingdom of Yorubaland, drawing deeply from the vibrant tapestry of Yoruba culture, music, and mythology. The series follows Iyanu, a teenage orphan who spends her days immersed in the study of history and ancient arts, yearning for a normal life. However, her destiny takes a dramatic turn when she accidentally unleashes her divine powers—abilities unseen since the legendary Age of Wonders. Faced with newfound responsibilities, Iyanu teams up with her friends, Biyi and Toye, on a daring quest to confront the malevolent forces threatening her homeland. Along the way, she unravels the mysteries of her past, her lineage, and her ultimate role in the salvation of her world.
Leading the voice cast is Serah Johnson, who brings Iyanu to life with compelling depth and emotion. Joining her are Okey Jude as Biyi, Iyanu’s adventurous companion, and Samuel Kugbiyi as Toye, the group’s intellectual powerhouse. The cast also includes renowned talents such as Adesua Etomi-Wellington, Blossom Chukwujekwu, Stella Damasus, Shaffy Bello, and Ike Ononye, each adding their unique flair to this epic narrative.

The series is slated for release in the US on Cartoon Network and Max in 2025. The writing team, headed by Brandon Easton (known for Transformers: War for Cybertron: Seige and Marvel’s Agent Carter), ensures a gripping and well-crafted storyline. Roye Okupe, serving as executive producer, writer, and director on multiple episodes, brings his visionary storytelling to the forefront, supported by executive producers David Steward II, Matt Heath, Erica Dupuis, Ryan Haidarian, and Doug Schwalbe.
