Hip-Hop Icon Fatman Scoop Passes Away at 53 After On-Stage Collapse

Beloved rapper and hype man Fatman Scoop, known for his iconic track “Be Faithful” that became a staple in 1990s club scenes, has tragically passed away at the age of 53. The New York City native, born Isaac Freeman III, collapsed during a free concert in Hamden, Connecticut, on Friday night.

Fatman Scoop was the headlining act at the “Green & Gold Party” when he experienced a medical emergency. Video shared on social media shows him energetically engaging the crowd at Town Center Park before suddenly collapsing out of the audience’s view.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing people perform chest compressions behind the DJ booth, as other performers on stage led the crowd in prayer. Emergency services were called to the scene around 8:33 p.m., and Freeman was transported to a local hospital.

Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett confirmed the incident on Facebook, asking the community to keep Fatman Scoop in their thoughts and prayers.

Freeman’s death was later confirmed by DJ and producer Birch Michael, also known as Pure Cold, who identified himself as the rapper’s tour manager. “It is with the heaviest of hearts I announce the passing of Issac Freeman III, professionally known as Fatman Scoop,” Michael wrote on social media, expressing his deep sorrow and gratitude for the time they shared together.

Fatman Scoop was a cherished figure in the music industry, collaborating with legends like Mariah Carey, Timbaland, Missy Elliott, and Skrillex. His track “Be Faithful” continues to garner millions of views, and his influence is felt across the hip-hop community.

His passing was also acknowledged by the Reminisce Festival in the UK, where he was scheduled to perform on September 7. “His absence will be profoundly felt by everyone,” the festival shared on Instagram, highlighting his impact as both a performer and a member of their community.

Fatman Scoop’s recent work included the release of the official music video for “Let It Go” with Dyce Paso, just hours before his untimely passing.
