Halsey Shares She’s ‘Lucky to Be Alive’ After Revealing Battle with Lupus and Leukemia

Halsey’s getting ready to drop her fifth album and decided to open up to her fans about some recent health issues.

On Tuesday, she jumped on Instagram to share that she’s been dealing with lupus, a chronic condition where the immune system attacks the body’s own tissues and organs.

“Long story short, I’m lucky to be alive. Short story long, I wrote an album,” the 29-year-old posted. “It begins with The End. Out now.” She also tagged the Lupus Research Alliance and the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, saying she’s donating to both organizations along with the release of her new song.

In her post, there’s a video of her rubbing her legs, saying, “I feel like an old lady. I told myself I’m giving myself two more years to be sick… I’m having a rebirth, and I’m not going to be sick. I’m going to look super hot, have lots of energy, and I’m going to redo my twenties in my thirties.”

She also included clips of her getting treatment at the hospital and recording her new song “The End” in the studio. The acoustic ballad, which dropped on Tuesday, starts with her singing, “Every couple of years now, a doctor says I’m sick / Pulls out a brand new bag of tricks / And then they lay it on me / And at first, it was my brain, then a skeleton in pain.”

Later in the song, she touches on her near-death experience with the line, “When I met you, I said I would never die / But the joke was always mine, ’cause I’m racing against time.”

This isn’t the first time Halsey has shared her health struggles. In 2016, she opened up about her endometriosis diagnosis, and in 2022, she revealed her body was “rebelling against” her, with various issues since her son’s birth in 2021. She later shared on Instagram that she’s been diagnosed with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, Sjogren’s syndrome, mast cell activation syndrome (MCAS), and postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome (POTS).
