Danielle Fishel Shares Breast Cancer Diagnosis, Urges Early Detection
“Boy Meets World” star Danielle Fishel, beloved for her role as Topanga Lawrence, recently opened up about a personal health battle. On the Aug. 19 episode of her podcast “Pod Meets World,” which she co-hosts with former co-stars Rider Strong and Will Friedle, Fishel revealed her diagnosis of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), a form of breast cancer.
The 43-year-old actress shared that her cancer was caught at an extremely early stage, technically stage 0, with high-grade DCIS and microinvasion. Despite the seriousness of the diagnosis, Fishel reassured fans that she is set to undergo surgery and follow-up treatment, and she’s optimistic about her recovery.
Fishel emphasized the importance of regular screenings, crediting her early detection to her prompt response to a routine mammogram reminder. “The only reason I caught this cancer at stage 0 is because I made that appointment,” she said. “I hope this encourages everyone to get checked, especially if it’s time for your appointment.”
She acknowledged that she still faces significant decisions regarding her treatment but is focused on staying positive. Her co-hosts and former castmates, Strong and Friedle, offered their support and encouragement.
Fishel, who shares two sons, Adler and Keaton, with her husband Jensen Karp, hopes her story will inspire others to prioritize their health.
