BEYONCÉ SNUBBED BY CMA’S…AGAIN

Despite her Groundbreaking Album “Cowboy Carter”, Beyonce did not receive one nomination this year.

The country music world was buzzing with excitement when Beyoncé dropped her game-changing album Cowboy Carter earlier this year, but once again, the Country Music Association has left her off the nomination list. Fans and insiders alike were stunned when the 58th CMA Awards nominations were announced, and the iconic star’s name was nowhere to be found—especially considering the album’s bold exploration of the genre and its cultural impact.

Cowboy Carter, Beyoncé’s eighth studio album, has been celebrated for blending country music with her signature style, offering a fresh perspective on a genre that often lacks diversity. Released on March 29, the album broke records and shined a spotlight on Black country artists, leading many to believe it would be a top contender at this year’s awards.

Despite this, the CMA Awards, often considered the pinnacle of achievement in the country music industry, didn’t recognize Beyoncé for any category—not even Album of the Year. Many hoped she would be the first Black woman to take home the coveted award, but the snub has left fans disappointed.

According to the CMA’s criteria, the Album of the Year award considers several elements, from artist performance to musical production and even the visual aspects like packaging and design. With Cowboy Carter checking all of these boxes, it seemed like a no-brainer for a nomination. However, the voting body, which is made up of industry professionals, ultimately decided otherwise.

The album’s inspiration is deeply personal for Beyoncé. She has been candid about her challenging experience performing at the 2016 CMA Awards, which she described as unwelcoming. In an Instagram post, she explained that this experience drove her to dive deeper into the history of country music, especially its overlooked Black roots. Cowboy Carter was the result of five years of hard work and research, a tribute to the rich legacy of Black country artists.

While Beyoncé may have been snubbed by the CMA Awards, her influence on the genre is undeniable. She’s already the most-nominated artist at the 2024 People’s Choice Country Awards with a whopping 12 nominations, and her work has been praised by some of country music’s biggest names.

This isn’t the first time a Black woman has faced obstacles at the CMA Awards. In 2023, Tracy Chapman became the first Black woman to win Song of the Year—but only because country star Luke Combs covered her 1988 hit Fast Car. Although Chapman was honored for writing the song, it left many hoping that original works by Black artists would finally receive the recognition they deserve.

As we look ahead to the 2024 CMA Awards, which will air live from Nashville on November 20th, one thing is clear: while Cowboy Carter may not be in the running, Beyoncé’s impact on country music will continue to shape the industry.

So, Xtralites, what do you think—was this a snub? Let us know your thoughts!
