Beyoncé Grants Kamala Harris Permission to Feature ‘Freedom’ in Presidential Campaign

Vice President Kamala Harris made a striking entrance during her inaugural visit to her campaign headquarters on Monday evening, stepping out to the empowering beats of Beyoncé’s anthem “Freedom.”

According to a CNN source close to Harris, her team secured clearance from Beyoncé’s representatives just hours before the event, swiftly gaining approval to feature “Freedom” throughout her presidential campaign. Beyoncé, known for her stringent music usage policies, promptly greenlit Harris’ request, signaling potential support for the Vice President despite no formal endorsement following President Joe Biden’s decision not to pursue reelection.

Although neither the Harris campaign nor Beyoncé’s representatives responded to CNN’s requests for comment, the gesture underscores a significant nod of approval from the superstar. This support aligns with Tina Knowles’ endorsement of Harris on Instagram, praising her as a leader embodying “youthful, sharp energy.”

Beyoncé has a history of endorsing Democratic candidates, notably performing at President Barack Obama’s 2013 inauguration and headlining a pro-Clinton concert in 2016 alongside Jay-Z. Her public advocacy extends to social issues, including her endorsement of the Biden-Harris ticket in 2020, emphasizing the importance of representation and limitless possibilities for future generations.

“Freedom,” featuring Kendrick Lamar, first appeared on Beyoncé’s 2016 album “Lemonade” and became a rallying cry during protests following George Floyd’s death in 2020. Its resonant lyrics, empowering Harris’ campaign kickoff, echoed through her headquarters: “Freedom, Freedom / Where are you? / ‘Cause I need freedom, too / I break chains all by myself / Won’t let my freedom rot in hell / Hey! I’ma keep running / ‘Cause a winner don’t quit on themselves.”
