



Limited series starring Andre’ Holland as Black Panther Leader Huey P. Newton Premiers May 17 2024
Apple has unveiled the official trailer for ‘The Big Cigar,’ a new limited series featuring André Holland in the role of Black Panther leader Huey P. Newton. The star-studded cast includes Alessandro Nivola, Tiffany Boone, P. J. Byrne, Marc Menchaca, Moses Ingram, Rebecca Dalton, Olli Haaskivi, Jordane Christie, and Glynn Turman.
Adapted from the magazine article by Joshuah Bearman, known for “Argo,” the series ‘The Big Cigar’ narrates the remarkable true story of Hollywood’s encounter with social revolution. The plot revolves around Black Panther founder Huey P. Newton’s daring escape from the FBI to Cuba with the help of renowned producer Bert Schneider. The intricate plan, involving a fake movie production, encounters numerous unexpected challenges along the way. NAACP Image Award winner Janine Sherman Barrois, known for “Claws” and “Self Made,” serves as the showrunner. The first episode is penned by executive producer Jim Hecht of “Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty.”
Scheduled to premiere globally on May 17, ‘The Big Cigar’ will release its first two episodes, followed by weekly episodes every Friday until June 14. The series is produced by Warner Bros. Television, with Sherman Barrois and her Folding Chair Productions in an overall deal. Executive producers include Sherman Barrois, Hecht, Bearman, Joshua Davis, and Arthur Spector of “Little America” through their production company Epic.
