It’s a Different World than where you come from…
Xtralites, get ready for a nostalgic trip back to Hillman College! Netflix is in the early stages of developing a sequel to the beloved series A Different World, and this time, the story will follow Dwayne and Whitley’s daughter as she navigates her college years at the iconic fictional HBCU. While the project is still in its infancy, sources reveal that it’s already generating buzz among fans of the original show.
This new chapter of A Different World is being spearheaded by writer and executive producer Felicia Pride, known for her work on Bel-Air and Grey’s Anatomy. Joining her as executive producers are industry heavyweights Debbie Allen, Mandy Summers, Tom Werner, Gina Prince-Bythewood, and Reggie Bythewood. Notably, Allen, Werner, Prince-Bythewood, and Bythewood all played significant roles in the original series, which adds an exciting layer of authenticity to the upcoming sequel.
For those who need a refresher, A Different World originally aired as a spin-off of *The Cosby Show* and focused on Denise Huxtable (Lisa Bonet) and her experiences at Hillman College. Though Bonet left after the first season, the series continued with a stellar cast including Jasmine Guy, Kadeem Hardison, Cree Summer, and many more. The show became a cultural touchstone, particularly with the love story between Whitley Gilbert (Guy) and Dwayne Wayne (Hardison).
The cast recently embarked on a 10-city tour of HBCUs, encouraging student enrollment and highlighting the importance of historically Black colleges and universities, further adding to the speculations that a revamped version of the show might be in the works.
